HEALTH I, PART IV – The LAWS, Part III
Lesson Eighteen – Heavenly Father’s Laws of Health – Part 3-a
Bonds of Charity; Perfectness and Peace
In Doctrine and Covenants 88:125 Jesus tells us:
“And, above all things,
clothe yourselves with the bond of charity,
as with a mantle,
which is the bond of perfectness and peace.”
Charity is defined as the same type of love that Jesus and Heavenly Father have for us. WE are to endeavor to have that kind of love for each other.
In Doctrine and Covenants 46:8, we are told to “seek after the best gifts”.
In Moroni 7:46, Mormon tells us to “…cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all…”
Therefore, charity must be one of those “best gifts” that we are to seek after.
In fact, two verses later, Mormon says:
“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all
energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he
hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of Jesus Christ;”.
So, having charity is quite important. But, what does it have to do with health?
EVERYTHING in the universe has a vibrational frequency, everything,
—including thoughts and emotions.
Try this: Put your elbows on the table, with your hands straight up from them. Then, with your hands in front of your face, let them shake quickly. Shake slower and then faster. This is somewhat the same as the differences in vibration frequencies.
The higher something vibrates, generally speaking, the better it is for us.
Our foods and thoughts and even our emotions all have vibrational frequencies.
Can you guess what emotion has the greatest or highest vibrational frequency?
If you guessed LOVE, unconditional, real love, Christlike, Godlike love – you guessed right.
So, you see, if we seek the gift of charity, to be able to love as God loves,
then we will be living at a higher frequency and that can only help us be healthy!
Another emotion that is every bit as important as love is GRATITUDE.
In the Alma 34:38 we read “…and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you.”
In Doctrine and Covenants 46:7 we read we should be: “…doing all things with prayer and thanksgiving…”
In Doctrine and Covenants 136:28 we are counseled: “If thou art merry, praise the Lord with singing, with music, with dancing, and with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving.”
And, finally, in Doctrine and Covenants 78:19 we are informed:
“And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness
shall be made glorious;
and the things of this earth shall be added unto him,
even a hundredfold, yea, more.”
Gratitude helps our pH be alkaline.
Let me tell you a true story.
I have a friend whose name is Kal. Kal was very interested in health and eventually went to school to be a doctor. Kal was very interested in pH and how it affects our health and how we can control it so we remain mostly alkaline.
One particular morning, Kal checked his pH. It was acidic. Not good. He had heard that gratitude was a very healthful emotion. So he tried an experiment.
For five full minutes, Kal got down on his knees and sincerely expressed gratitude or thanksgiving to Heavenly Father.
What do you think happened?
When Kal got up he again checked his pH level. It was definitely alkaline!
Gratitude, as love, is an alkaline virtue. Express gratitude daily and continually. It’s a very healthy thing to do, especially when you combine it with the next lesson!
Lesson Nineteen – Heavenly Father’s Laws of Health – Part 3-b
Doctrine and Covenants 88:126, says in part: “Pray always.”
This is stated many times in the Scriptures. For example, in 3 Nephi 18:15, Jesus says to “…pray always…” And, in 3 Nephi 20:1, Jesus tells the Nephites to cease praying out load but to, “not cease to pray in their hearts.”
Alma, in Alma 34:17 through 27, sums up this idea perfectly.
He talks about “crying unto the Lord” – which means praying unto the Lord.
In these verses Alma says we should humble ourselves and ask for mercy. We should pray over our fields, over all your flocks; in our houses, morning, mid-day and evening. Further, he states that we should pray asking for help against our enemies and to bless us in our businesses and jobs that we might do well and prosper.
Then Alma says (verses 26 & 27):
“But this is not all; ye must pour out your souls in your closets,
and your secret places, and in your wilderness.
“Yea, and when you do not cry unto the Lord. Let your hearts be full,
drawn out in prayers unto him continually for your welfare,
and also for the welfare of those who are around you.”
So, we are to pray always.
Again, what does THIS have to do with our health?
1 – People who pray actually ARE healthier.
Studies have shown this to be true!
2 – Vibrational frequency. If praying raises the vibrational frequency of the food we eat – and it does, this has also been
scientifically proven. Then, wouldn’t OUR Praying for ourselves
and others also tend to raise our own vibrational frequency?
3 – The greater our frequency, the stronger our immune system and the healthier we are!
Assignment: In the scriptures we are admonished to pray always, and to seek the best gifts – charity & gratitude. Make it a habit, morning and evening, to kneel and pray vocally.
And, remember, praying is not just a list of “Please bless and give …”, but also of “Thank you’s,” and gratitude for what He has given. Even more, as we really learn to pray, we learn that praying is a two-way conversation. Prayer is an opportunity to receive guidance, counsel, and encouragement from our Heavenly Father. Pray to be able to Hear Him. LISTEN… and you will HEAR.
