First, you will need the Pre-K Math: Spectrum Hands-On Math – PK $14.99
Second, you will need to prepare the manipulatives by cutting them out and putting them in envelopes according to type. This is a job for Mom or Dad or both, NOT the student.
Third, be aware that we have augmented this course with video classes and a Card Games which are NOT part of the Spectrum PreK Math.
Fourth, consult the PDF for the Lesson schedule and be prepared ahead for what is needed.
Course Content: Students advance when they master a concept.
1 – BEFORE THE BOOK – Lessons 1-10 (and more, if needed,) on Subitizing. (SOOO bi ties’ zing!) Here the child learns the quantities 1-10 by site.
*****Can your child, WITHOUT COUNTING, tell the number of items in groups of 0 through ten? (11 points, 1 for each quantity.)
2 – Lessons 11-15 Using the 5 – Frame & Practicing One to Five
*****Can your child place quantities of 1 through 5 correctly on a five frame? (5 points, one for each quantity)
3 – Lessons 16-25 Counting to 10, Using a 10 Frame, Writing Numbers, More Counting, Count On, Count Two Groups, Count on a 10 Frame
*****Can your child place quantities of 6 through 10 correctly on a ten frame? (5 points, one for each quantity)
*****Can he count to ten? (10 points, one for each number counted correctly in order.)
*****Can he correctly print his numbers? (Chart comes attached to the course.) (10 points, 1 point for each numeral 0 through 9)
4 – Lessons 26-34 Counting to 20, Add One, Add Objects, Using Ten Frames to Add, Using a Number line to Add, Subtract One, Subtract Objects, Subtract on a Number Line, Word Problems.
*****Can your child count to 20 and correctly place each amount 11 through 20 on two ten frames? (10 points for counting correctly, and 10 points for placing the quantities correctly on the ten frame.)
*****Does your child know all the addition and subtraction facts that make-up to 5 and down from 5? *****Can your child discern between what is long and short, tall and short, Heavy and Light. (6 points, one for each word.)
*****Does your child know the meaning of ‘above,’ ‘below,’ and ‘next?’ (3 points, one for each word.)
9 – Lessons 65-68 – Sort by color and Shape, Sort by Category, Color Patterns, Shape Patterns
*****Can your child sort by color, size, and shape? (2 points for each capability – 6 point altogether)
*****Can he determine what comes next in these patterns? 000000___ TOTOTO_____ (2 points for each, 4 points in all)
10 – Lessons 69-77 – Shapes: Circles, Triangles, Squares, Rectangles, Rhombuses, Play: Shape, Color, Position ID, Combining Shapes
