CLOSING EXERCISES consist of a song and prayer.

The song is always the same: Hymn No. 153 in the current hymnal – “Lord, We Ask Thee Ere We Part.”

During the course of each fall term, new students learn the four verses of this hymn. Then, from the beginning of the second term, we sing all four verses at the end of each day.

It is one of two hymns chosen by the Academy as our anthems.

After the hymn, we have a closing prayer.

(See forms and other helps in OPENING EXERCISES A)

From the text, we are sure you can see why we have chosen to use it to end each day.

“Lord, we ask thee, ere we part
Bless the teachings of this day.
Plant them deep in every heart,
That with us they’ll ever stay.

In the innocence of youth,
We would all thy laws fulfill.
Lead us in the way of truth,
Give us strength to do thy will.

Father, merciful and kind,
While we labor for the right,
May we in they service find
Sweetest pleasure, pure delight.

All our follies, Lord, forgive.
Keep us from temptations free.
Help us evermore to live
Lives of holiness to thee.”
